Eavesdropping

It was a busy, balmy evening in the city. Who knew so many people are out on a Tuesday night?!

Frustrated by the first sketch I did (not shown here) - too tight, too 'coloured-in' - I decided to go a bit crazy just to see what would happen.

While I was sketching it became apparent that the girls sitting near me were acting students - they had notes and other study-stuff spread out in front of them.

Quite suddenly they broke into a loud, improvised conversation in an American accent. They'd been going for about five minutes when a homeless man approached to ask for change. Would they break character? I held my breath in anticipation...

They did. They came back to themselves. And the conversation that followed was very ordinary and conducted in the local twang.

The city is so full of stories...
