Vintage suitcase

You would think trying to buy nothing new would mean a cut down on spending, but actually, poking around in op shops ends up resulting in the opposite. I was hunting for something else entirely on the weekend when I came across this treasure.

I have had a thing for old suitcases ever since they started appearing as furniture and storage in styled homes online and at handmade markets. What can I say, sometimes when there's a bandwagon I don't mind hopping on it.

But I've never actually spotted one of these beauties in an op shop. Until the weekend! It cost me twenty bucks. I have no idea what the going rate is for something like this (I'm not convinced I got a bargain). I just knew that I wanted it. Although I was brave enough to drive away and think about it. I decided if it was still there on my way home it was meant to be.

It was meant to be!

The funny thing is that recently I picked up this Frankie publication Spaces for five bucks at a different op shop, which I've been drooling over.

Inspired by illustrator Samantha Groenestyn's amazing work with gouache, late last week I decided to experiment with my own set of (not amazing quality) gouache I've had in the back of the art cabinet for about a year. I used a photo on one of the pages of this book as reference. What do you think I chose to paint?

You see? You see! Meant to be!
