I'm back!

It was nice having a two-week break from blogging but I did miss it. I kept thinking, oh, I'll blog about that tomorrow. But then I remembered I was 'on holidays'. It was kind of good because it forced me to relax. I need that every now and again. Imposed relaxation.

One thing the break was good for was re-assessing what I want to do with this blog and what I want it to be for. When I decided to blog every day I didn't really know my purpose - all I knew was that I needed some structure and momentum to keep this blog going and blogging daily seemed like the way to go. Having daily themes was really freeing because it meant I didn't have to think too hard about what I would write about. But towards the middle of the year those daily themes started to feel like shackles and I just wanted to break out and write whatever I wanted.

Over the last couple of weeks I've thought about giving up the daily commitment and just blogging whenever. But then Kim talked me out of that, convincing me that the feeling of achieving this new year's resolution would be amazing and that I should stick with it, but just change what's not working. Well, okay. That makes sense. Why didn't I think of that?!

So before giving up the daily thing prematurely I'll just try that for a while. I'll write whatever I want or maybe write on themes sometimes. The one thing I don't want to give up is my regular interview series with creative people because I feel like I get so much out of that. I'm learning a lot from the answers that come back to me and I feel like I'm doing a bit of an apprenticeship on how to live and work creatively. And learning from such amazing people! And the best part is I get to share it with you too and hopefully others will learn a little something along with me. I will still try to make the interviews weekly, but I won't be too hard on myself if I miss a week here or there.

I also want to make this blog more about the new things I'm getting interested in. I have been drawing and sketching like a maniac these last few weeks and I want to share that with you. I'm also really inspired at the moment by people who are doing urban sketching and sketchbook journaling. So I want to share that too.

So I'm coming back re-energised and excited about a slightly new blog direction and about the artwork and drawing I've been doing recently. I'm looking forward to sharing it all here!

We also had a mini-holiday and a nice chunk of family time while I was away from blogging and got to do some nice things that I'll write about too. Tomorrow I'm going to post about sketching at the Sydney Opera House...now that was fun!
