Drawing Flinders Street Station (with Mum)

A few weeks ago I got the opportunity to sketch with my mum. I don't think we've drawn together since I was in high school and doing a subject called 'Graphic Communication'. Mostly I'd get stuck and not know how to draw something in particular and she would show me how (she's awesome like that). This was a much more relaxing experience as there was no assignment to hand in at the end! Here is my effort from our afternoon.

We were sitting at Southbank looking over the river towards Flinders Street Station. It was difficult to choose which part of the scene to 'frame' as it was all a bit samey-samey, but then I saw this tree on our side of the river and used it as a counterpoint for the building. I don't mind how this turned out actually. I like the idea that you don't have to complete the whole scene but can just suggest what is there and use colour for the focal points.

It was such a nice experience drawing with Mum. I hope we get to do it again soon!
