Darebin Art Prize Win

Some more exciting news - my painting Tree (Detail) has been selected as one of three winners of the Darebin Art Prize! I got the call late last week which took me by complete surprise. It really was the most fantastic news.

Tree (Detail) - Jodi Wiley 2010

The other two winners were Jason Emilianowicz and Nick Stella. The latter's painting of Christos Tsiolkas (author of The Slap - if you haven't read it, go out and get it now!) is very impressive and much, much bigger than the website depicts. To see all three pieces click here - this page has a slideshow of the three.

We saw the exhibition on Saturday and the wonderful thing is that it's installed so beautifully. They've done a great job of bringing together such an ecclectic collection of different themes, mediums and styles. If you get along to it, don't miss the first room of the exhibition - a hard left as you enter - which is probably my favourite room and not just because Kim's painting Once a Jolly Swagman is in there! It's just put together really well and is a pleasure to view. Also, look out for my friend, Janet Neilson's, beautiful work Leafing Through Some Old Books 2, which is upstairs.

The exhibition is at the Bundoora Homestead Art Centre until 17 October 2010, which is located inside Bundoora Park. Opening hours and address details are on the website.
